About Gangotri Dham
Located at an altitude of 3,100 meters, the Gangotri Temple was built by Amar Singh Thapa and later renovated by the Maharaja of Jaipur. Surrounded by glaciers and peaks, it is a place of spiritual significance.
The Bhagirath Shila, a stone near the temple, marks the spot where King Bhagirath meditated. Close to Gangotri, Gaumukh Glacier, the source of the Ganges, attracts devotees and trekkers.
According to mythology, King Bhagirath’s penance brought Goddess Ganga to Earth, and Lord Shiva contained her flow in his locks. The Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, stands in the Garhwal Himalayas, offering a spiritual experience.
